LOWER EAST SIDE COMMUNITY HERO
Special Acknowledgement
Neighbors to Save Rivington House
The 2017 LES Community Hero Awards presented a special acknowledgement for “Neighbors to Save Rivington House” for their organizing efforts.
The sale of Rivington House, which provided nursing home care for AIDS patients to a real estate developer, was made possible due to the De Blasio administration lifting deed restrictions on the property. Community residents and nonprofits joined together in a fierce battle to protest the sale and return Rivington House to a nonprofit health provider. The struggle is outlined in multiple articles below.
