The Art of Storytelling by Think!Chinatown
Honoring the everyday lives of those who call Chinatown home, Think!Chinatown’s Art of Storytelling project features family oral histories with neighbors, accompanied by animated illustrations from AAPI artists. These are just some of the Chinatown community’s vibrant stories that challenge us to reimagine how we collectively remember and honor our past while redefining our future.
Think!Chinatown is proud to present “Who He Was.” Nancy Sing-Bock tells us the story of her father An Van Sing and his journey from a small village outside of Shanghai to New York. During World War II, he joined the British military as a cook with friends from his village. After the war ended, he decided to settle in New York and met Nancy’s mother Jeanne Leach.
